“Experienced a malfunctioning circulating pump resulting in a loss of hot water. Of course it happened on a Holiday weekend. Called LINK, left a message.
They were very good about getting back to me first thing Tuesday morning, I’ve used their services for about 4 years now. By noon a technician was on site. I told the office precisely what was wrong and which part to bring.
The Tech was here about two hours and did a great job replacing the pump and getting us back our hot water. I was however shocked at the price of the repair. I was charged with a “diagnostic” fee, most companies waive this fee when they do an extensive repair, not LINK. They charged me $564 to replace a $150 pump. I don’t deny anyone a mark up on a part, but even allowing for that, a two hour job came out to a labor rate of $190/hour.
So in summary, a diagnostic fee when I told them EXACTLY what was wrong and what to bring, $374 in labor for a two hour job. I have to seriously re-examine my continued relationship with LINK.For years, I have made it a policy NOT to complain about the price of services, especially when the provider is accommodating. I feel like this service fee was excessive and having a basic understanding of cost accounting, not fair.”
